Hauser or other Military breechloading rifles $50 each. Automatic pistols (Military) 830 each. Revolvers (Military) 820 each.
For old Arms of no Military value (e.g. muzzle loading muskets or rifles and revolvers in bad repair and
condition.
Reward is 20% of the fine imposed by the Magistrate or 33% of the market value of the arms etc., whichever is the greater.
Weapons such as Tinchester Rifles which are modern but cannot be classed as Military are separately valued The value of a Winchester Rifle is usually $25.
Under the Arms Ordinance Arms and Ammunition seized
by the Police are usually declared by the Magistrate forfeit to the
Crown; and in this Colony modern arme have a value which compensates the Goverment for paying high rewards.
I have ascertained that arms or ammunition seized
by the Chinese Maritime Customs at Shanghai are forfeited to the
Chinese Goverment; and in these circumstances I have suggested
to the Commissioner of Chinese Maritime Customs here that in the
case of arms or ammunition seized through the instrumentality of
the Customs Staff at Shanghai or other port in China, a reward by the Hongkong Government of not less than 82 per modern weapon over
and above the reward of one-tenth of the price realised by the sale of the arms, granted by the Maritime Customs, would probably suffice
to procure good information. But greater rewards may be paid on
the merits of the case.
As regards modern arms and ammunition seized by the Shanghai Municipal Police I recognise that the articles would be forfeited in Shanghai and in these circumstances I am prepared to offer the same reward for modern weapons as in the case of the seizures by the Maritime Customs over and above any reward which the
Police Authorities at Shanghai may grant.
